Been talking to someone today about goldfish puffing up?

A friend said she watched a heron dive into her pool to catch a medium sized goldfish and was amazed to see the fish puff up to double it’s size, the heron dropped it and our amazing fish goes on to swim around the pool.
Does anyone know about this type of thing with goldfish ?
I don’t think the lady was trying to wind me up. She’savery genuine person. But upon reflection she probabyTHOUGHT
