Why would people want to dive around in soccer? Anyone who does is ruining there reputation as a footballer?

In sport, of course there will be cheats, like the topic i am talking about, diving. but why do they want to do it? does it give them any pleasure? Sure they get there team a free kick or penalty if they succeed but that is just currupt and spoils the game for the other team and the people watching at home.
