Australia of course! Try the Great Barrier Reef of Stradbroke Island.

We’re talking nice, easy, warm-water diving — lots of shallow stuff so you can build up some experience.

So… if you’re in the US, the cheapest place to go diving is going to be Mexico or the Caribbean islands.

If you’re in the UK, the cheapest place is Egypt (Red Sea).

Welcome to the blue planet. =D
Me, I’ve dived all three places, and many more not quite so warm and lovely…

Cozumel, Mexico is a great place. It used to be really inexpensive a few years ago. The rise in airfare has made it a little more expensive; however, airfare has made everywhere a little more expensive.

    Congrats on getting certified!

When we go diving, we dive every day until we’re too close to our flight time and have to stop. So great diving (and affordable diving) is important.

Our two favorite places are Bonare in the Caribbean and Fiji. In Bonaire, check out for their great packages - and the number one reef in the Caribbean is right in front of the Sand Dollar condos. There is fabulous shore diving there too.

We’ve traveled to Fiji five times and like to book with. They find affordable places with great diving and usually their packages are all-inclusive (lodging, airfare, diving, meals). In Fiji, we’ve booked at Naigani Island Resort and Garden Island Resort with them. Garden Island Resort diving is primarily drift diving so you may not be ready for that. We’re heading back to Naigani in May.

Diving the reef in Australia is fabulous, but the exchange rate is 1 AUD = 92 US cents. In Fiji, one of their dollars is about 60 US cents, so your money goes a lot farther and the diving is incredible.

Hope this helps - Have a wonderful time diving!

I dove off the Southern Islands of Thailand in May and it was incredible!!! The visibility was great, the guides were professional and the fish were amazing! It was also super cheap. We went in Koh Tao and Koh Phi Phi Don. The shop in Koh Tao was called Pheonix Divers. Thailand was the greatest trip I’ve been on. Amazing people, food and diving and it was cheap. The water felt like a warm bath. My boyfriend is more experienced, he said the only place with more amazing diving was the Bahamas.
